This is such a great spot. Hit up Yonah Shimmel's for some real authentic knishes! We tried 3 flavors, the classic potato, spinach, and one of the specials which was cheddar jalapeño - everything was delicious!

The staff were super friendly. This is a great hole-in-the-wall LES classic spot.

Best knishes around. In a class of it's own.
Strictly takeout when we were there in Se 2023.
A hole in the wall this establishment takes you back in time.

We ordered and ate red cabbage potato knish,
Potato knish, kasha knish and jalapeño cheddar.

We all couldn't get enough of the stuffed knishes.
We love potatoes and this is the only place that still makes them like they did years ago.

Pre Covid we ate the sweet dessert knishes which were pleasantly tasty and delicious.

It's a real treat for us.
We were disappointed they weren't making egg creams.

I have a fond memory of getting a garlic and onion knish at Yonah Schimmel's before a movie screening at the old Landmark Sunshine movie theatre, which of course no longer exists. It was such a delightful treat to have while at the movies. Would love to go back for another savory knish next time I visit NYC. The interior has a great mom and pop feel, nothing fancy. The fact that this business has been around for over 100 years just makes you feel as if you are stepping back in time. Definitely a Lower East Side and New York City institution. An important cultural landmark!
